Description
Description
The APC-54 is a heavy tracked combat vehicle that served with the South Lebanon Army. South Lebanon Army, abbreviated as SLA). The car was about 6.1 meters long with a width of about 3.25 meters. The drive was probably provided by a single W-54 engine with a power of up to 520 HP. The armament was two 12.7 mm machine guns. The South Lebanon Army (SLA) is an armed formation formed in 1977, whose first commander was the former Lebanese army officer Saad Haddad. The main goals of this formation were the fight against Palestinian militants in Lebanon, as well as the protection of civilians in the southern part of the country - especially Christians. It is worth adding that the SLA was a pro-Israel formation, more or less officially supported by the government in Tel Aviv. In the course of military operations, the SLA formed two brigades with a total strength of approx. 4,000 people. They used a wide variety of military equipment - including various local conversions of armored vehicles. These include the APC-54 vehicle, which was constructed on the basis of the T-54 main battle tank. However, it did not have a tower, and in its place a stationary and exposed casemate for the crew's soldiers was installed.
