Description
Description
The Focke-Wulf Triebflügel was a WWII German vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) fighter project. Probably the propulsion was to be provided by three Pabst thrusters. The deck armament was to consist of two 30mm Mk.103 cannons and two 20mm MG 151 cannons. The machine has never been tested, much less entered mass production.
Due to the increasingly clear dominance of the Allies in the air in 1943-1944, the Luftwaffe command decided to test the possibility of creating a fighter that would be able to take off from the shortest possible runways, and ideally if it was a vertical take-off and landing plane with the best possible performance, capable of destroying Allied strategic bombers. The Focke-Wulf plant, in an attempt to respond to these ambitious technical requirements, created an incredibly avant-garde aircraft design with three rotating wings, at the ends of which were placed jet engines. The planned speed of the plane was to reach approx. 1000 km / h. However, the Focke-Wulf Triebflügel only passed wind tunnel tests, after which the enthusiasm for the entire project clearly waned. Finally, the Focke-Wulf Triebflügel has never been flown.
