Description

Black Dog 1:35 BTR 40 Canvas Accessories Kit

The wheeled armored personnel carrier BTR-40 was developed in the late 1940s and entered service with the Soviet Army in 1948. Serial production of the vehicle took place in the years 1948-1960 at Fabryka Samochodow im. Molotov (GAZ) in the city of Gorky. The vehicle was powered by a single 80 HP carburettor engine and took up to 8 landing troops. The crew consisted of two people: the commander and the mechanic-driver. The main armament of the basic version (BTR-40) was a single 7.62 mm machine gun. The BTR-40 transporter was created as a successor to the BA-64B armored car from the times of World War II. The designers used many components of the GAZ-63 off-road truck in the BTR-40. However, the chassis was shortened and a more powerful engine was used, and a 10RT-12 radio with a range of up to 25 km was also installed. In the course of serial production, many variants of the BTR-40 were created, differing mainly in the main armament, armor thickness and its shape. In the BTR-40 B version, introduced in 1957, the landing compartment armored from the top was used for the first time, which was used primarily for reconnaissance activities. The BTR-40 was exported to many Warsaw Pact countries (including Poland) and in the 1960s to Arab and African countries.
