Sd.Kfz. 252 (nim. Sonderkraftfahrzeug 252) is a German half-track ammunition transporter from the Second World War. The first prototypes of these cars were made at the end of 1939. Serial production was carried out in 1940-1941 and resulted in the creation of 413 vehicles of this type. The drive was provided by a single Maybach HL42 TRKM carburetor engine with 100 HP. The vehicle did not have factory-fitted fixed weapons.
Sd.Kfz. 252 was developed as a specialized ammunition carrier dedicated to units of German assault guns, primarily the StuG III. The vehicle was developed on the basis of the Sd.Kfz half-track transporter. 250. The main change compared to the original was the creation of an ammunition compartment in the rear part of the vehicle that could accommodate up to 36 75mm rounds. There was a double door leading to the compartment, opening at the end of the fuselage. The armor of the vehicle reached 18 mm in its front part. The production of these vehicles was primarily the responsibility of Demag and Wegmann, and in 1941 - Deutsche Werke. Sd.Kfz vehicles. The 252 debuted during the campaign in France in the summer of 1940, and later also fought on the Eastern Front, starting in June 1941. Over time, they began to be replaced by Sd.Kfz.250 / 5 vehicles - much cheaper to produce.
