The M110 is a modern American self-propelled gun. The first prototypes of the car were created in the 1950s, and serial production started in 1963, with breaks, and continues to this day. It is estimated that approx. 1,800 examples of this weapon have been produced so far (2018). The M110 is powered by a motor General Motors 8V71T with a power of 450 hp. The armament is a single M2A2 howitzer, caliber 203.2 mm.
In parallel with the M107 self-propelled gun, the US Army commissioned work on its counterpart, but using a 203.2 mm howitzer. The universal T249 tracked chassis was also used for the new self-propelled gun. The first production series, marked as M110, turned out to be failure and not very successful. Only the introduction of an improved and technologically refined version of the M110A1 into production in 1969 made it possible to change the negative reception of the new weapon among the military. At the beginning of the 1980s, the M110A2 version was introduced, with a longer barrel and a muzzle brake. The main armament has also been adapted to a new family of missiles that use a more powerful expelling charge. Gun self-propelled M110 went to several foreign recipients, including: Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Israel, Japan and South Korea. The M110 also took part in many armed conflicts, such as the Vietnam War (1964 / 1965-1975), the Iraqi-Iranian War of 1980-1988 or the Operation Desert Storm 1990-1991.
