Description

The 21 cm Mörser 10/16 is a German 211 mm towed howitzer from the First World War. The weight of the weapon reached approx. 7.1 tons. The initial velocity of the demolition shell from this gun was up to 335 m / s, with a maximum range of about 9,400 meters. Design work on the Mörser 10 began at the beginning of the 20th century at the Krupp plant and was aimed at replacing the Mörser 99 howitzer with the 211 mm caliber. Compared to its predecessor, the new howitzer was clearly more mobile, slightly better accurate while maintaining a similar range. At the outbreak of World War I, there were 216 pieces of these weapons in the army of the Second German Reich. Some Mörser 10s received shields to protect the crew from shrapnel. The improved version of the Mörser 10 howitzer is the 21 cm Mörser 16 howitzer, which was characterized by a longer barrel, lowered weight and higher range. Both howitzers served in the German army throughout the First World War.
