The M1078 LMTV (Medium Tactical Vehicle) is a modern American military truck. The first prototype M1078 vehicles appeared in the mid-1990s, and the first vehicles entered service in 1996 and remain in service today. The vehicle is powered by a single diesel engine Caterpillar 3115 ATAAC with 225 HP. The car is 6.4 meters long and 2.43 meters wide. The top speed is up to 94 km / h.

The roots of the M1078 vehicle date back to 1991, when the Stewart and Stevenson Company (part of the Oshkosh Corporation since 2012) received an order from the US military to design and build a new medium-duty truck that would systematically replace the previously used vehicles of this type. The company did its job and in 1996 the M1078 entered service. The manufacturer decided to base the new vehicle on the proven Steyr 12M18 truck, while strengthening the entire structure, using a new engine with a higher maximum power (225 HP versus 177 HP) and introducing other minor modernizations. The main task of the M1078 is to transport loads up to 2.27 tons or soldiers. Vehicles of this type took part in the operation in Afghanistan and in the Second Gulf War (2003). Under the influence of the lessons learned from these conflicts, versions of the car with an armored driver's cab (LSAC) appeared.
