Description
Description
The Short Stirling is a British, four-engine strategic bomber with a metal structure and a classic tail. The flight of the prototype took place in May 1939, and serial production continued in 1940-1946 and resulted in the creation of about 2,300 aircraft. The design of the Stirling bomber was partly based on the Short Sunderland flying boat. Two basic mass-produced versions were created - Mark I and Mark III. Some of the Mk.III aircraft were converted to the Mark IV version, intended for towing gliders. The Stirling Mk.V plane was also produced, which was used to transport paratroopers. Technical data (Mark. I version): length: 26.6 m, wingspan: 30.2 m, height: 6.9 m, maximum speed: 454 km / h, rate of climb: 4 m / s, practical ceiling: 5000 m, maximum range: 3750 km, armament: fixed - 8 Browning 7.7mm machine guns, suspended - up to 6350 kg of bombs.
