Description

AMX-10RC is a French wheeled armored reconnaissance car, which was created in cooperation with Renault and GIAT. The first prototypes were built in 1977, and serial production continued in 1979-1986, ending with the production of about 480 vehicles. The AMX-10RC is driven Hispano-Suiza HS-115 or Baudouin 6F-11 SRX engine with 260 HP or 280 HP. Its main armament is the 105 mm GIAT F-2 tank gun, and its auxiliary armament is a single 7.62 mm machine gun.

The AMX-10RC was created in response to the French army's need for a new reconnaissance vehicle to replace the Panhard EBR vehicles, which were increasingly obsolete in the 1970s. The design uses exactly the same hull as the AMX-10P tracked car, but it was adapted to the wheel traction. The 6x6 wheel system was also used, which guaranteed high mobility in the field and allowed to place strong artillery weapons. From 1979, the car was introduced to units of the French army. It was used in combat during the mission in Chad (1983-1984) and in the Desert Storm operation in 1990-1991, it also served in the peace mission in Kosovo (1999). The AMX-10RC was purchased by Morocco and Qatar.
