Description

The GT-MU is a Soviet, tracked armored personnel carrier from the Cold War period. The car was put into serial production in 1971. The vehicle was 5.146 meters long with a width of 2.47 meters. Its weight reached 5.8 tons. The drive was provided by a single GAZ-73 engine with a power of up to 85 hp. The maximum speed on the road was about 55 km / h. The GT-MU was developed primarily for the needs of the Soviet airborne forces, which in the late 1960s wanted to obtain a light and highly mobile armored personnel carrier, but also a de facto tracked transport vehicle. Ultimately, a very small and manoeuvrable vehicle was created that also has amphibious properties. It is worth adding that the GT-MU is, in essence, a development of the GT-SM car. The vehicle could also be transported by air by Ił-76 or An-12 planes. Only a few development versions of this car were made, among which the GT-MU-1D powered by a diesel engine can be mentioned. The main user of the GT-MU cars was the Soviet Army.
