Description
The first prototypes of the BRDM-2 armored reconnaissance car were made in 1962. Serial production started in 1963 and continued until 1989. It ended with the production of about 7,000 vehicles. The BRDM-2 was powered by a single 140hp GAZ-41 engine. The basic armament of the vehicle is: 14.5 mm KPWT machine gun. and the PKT machine gun cal .: 7.62 mm.
The BRDM-2 armored reconnaissance car was developed as a successor to the BRDM-1. The Design Office at the GAZ car factory was responsible for its development. The BRDM-2 differs from its predecessor mainly by the use of a significantly more powerful engine and increased floating ability. It also features significantly improved vehicle ergonomics by moving the engine compartment to the rear of the hull and the crew compartment to the front of the car. The armor, which still does not protect the crew from artillery fragments or machine gun shells with an area of. 12.7 mm. PKK (Guided Anti-Tank Missiles) type 9M17 Falanga or 9M113 Competition were also mounted on special variants of the RDM-2. The BRDM-2 vehicle was widely used by the Soviet Army, and was also exported to the Warsaw Pact countries (including Poland!) And third world countries.
