The Type 23 (also known as the Duke class) is the name of a class of modern British missile frigates that entered service since 1990. In total, 16 units of this type were created. The total length of the ship of this type is 133 meters, the overall width is 16.1 meters, and the full displacement is approximately 4900 tons. The maximum speed is around 28-30 knots. The on-board weapons include: a single 32-rail Sea Wolf rocket launcher, two quadruple Harpoon rocket launchers, a single 113 mm cannon and two 30 mm cannons. The unit can base one on-board helicopter eg Agusta-Westland Merlin HM2. The Type 23 frigates were initially designed as specialized anti-submarine ships (ZOP), but due to the experiences of the 1982 Falklands War, their on-board armament was significantly expanded, including a 114mm gun and Harpoon missiles. In the construction of the units, especially those entering service later, elements of stealth technology were used. In the period 2005-2006, a decision was made in Great Britain to recall three units of this type and sell them to Chile.
